Governance
AFMGP is a member-led organization with a clear and accountable structure.
The association is governed by an elected board and conducts its work through standing committees. What follows is the framework it operates under — the bodies and roles that carry its work, and the principles that govern how that work is done.
The association is directed by a board of directors elected by the membership. Elections are held annually; every member in good standing is entitled to vote, and the board answers to the membership that elects it. This is what "member-led" means in practice — the people the network exists for choose the people who steward it.
The board's work is carried out through standing committees, each responsible for an area of the association's activity, from membership and the recognition repository to professional affiliates and conduct. Committees are chaired by members and report to the board.
Beyond the board and committees, the association recognizes the following roles within the membership.
Members are expected to engage in good faith, to respect the discretion of others around sensitive matters of citizenship and residence, and to be clear when they are sharing personal experience rather than authoritative guidance. Experience shared within the association is offered member-to-member and carries no warranty.
This is a governance matter as much as an editorial one, so it appears here too: AFMGP and its members, acting in the association's name, do not provide legal, immigration, or tax advice. Any member who holds relevant professional qualifications and chooses to advise does so in their own independent capacity, under their own responsibility, and not on behalf of the association.
